Exclusive for AYC Members! Leadership Austin Workshop

The Austin Young Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Austin are partnering to provide AYC members with a special leadership development opportunity. Offered first to the Austin Young Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Austin has prepared a special series of workshops designed to develop young professionals’ business and leadership skills beyond the typical “Leadership 101” content offered in many development settings. With an emphasis on the values of inclusion, collaboration, and being good community trustees, these short but deep workshops will challenge your existing skill set and offer opportunities to network and apply what you’ve learned immediately – at home, at work, and as you serve Austin at large. Co-presented by Leadership Austin President/CEO Heather McKissick, and some of Austin’s top community and industry leaders, the series includes:

Tuesday, March 23rd @ 4:30pm

Focus On Results: Creating clarity in chaos
Introduction: Gary Farmer, President, Heritage Title Company, Chairman , Opportunity Austin and Vice- Chair of Economic Development for the Austin Chamber of Commerce

In this session, we’ll review how to create a clear, compelling vision of desired results, create milestones and indicators for success, and “work backwards” to create an action plan including resources, relationships and rewards. Most importantly, participants will learn specific tools for slicing through committee confusion, re-focusing after tangents or misfires, and rallying teams to stay the course.

Tuesday, April 27th @ 4:30pm

Good Community is Good Business: Contribute to more than the bottom line
Introduction: James Huffines, Central & South Texas Regional Chairman, PlainsCapital Bank & Future 2011 Chairman of the Austin Chamber of Commerce

In this session, we’ll explore the intersection between business and community leadership, examining cases of how strong community stewardship has lead to significant industry success. Participants will create their own engagement strategy for increasing individual and organizational involvement, leading to personal, professional, and community rewards.

Tuesday, May 25th @ 4:30pm

To Lead is to Listen: Genuine presence takes practice
Introduction: Barry Mayer, President, Tokoyo Electron & Chairman of the Austin Chamber of Commerce

In this session, we’ll go far beyond the concept of “active listening,” studying and applying cutting-edge communication techniques practiced by top leaders from both industry and community sectors.
