Melanie Plummer - Executive Director

Melanie Plummer Melanie Plummer is the Executive Director for the Austin Young Chamber of Commerce. Melanie serves as the chief executor for the overall vision and direction of the AYC. She is responsible for the general growth and branding of the organization as well as the management of everyday operations.

Born and raised in Austin, Melanie graduated from the University of Texas in 2006. During her time at UT she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega and Texas Sweethearts, and spent time volunteering for Easter Seals of Central Texas. After college, she went on to work for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce in South Carolina. During her time at the Chamber she served two roles, as the Special Events Coordinator for the Chamber and Project Coordinator for the National I-73/74 Corridor Association, housed at the Chamber.

As Special Events Coordinator, Melanie was able to help with the planning and implementation of all Chamber events. Including, the 2008 Congressional Black Caucus Primary Presidential Debate, featuring Presidential candidates Barack Obama, Hiliary Clinton, and John Edwards, and the 2008 South Carolina Republican Party Presidential debate featuring eight of the Republican presidential candidates. She also helped organize the Rock Out Your Vote! Young Voter Event, Canadian American Days Reception and Farewell Beach Party, featuring the US Ambassador to Canada and members of the Canadian Parliament, and the 2008 Society of American Travel Writers Conference in Myrtle Beach. She also assisted with the planning and logistics of all annual Chamber events including the South Carolina Legislative Grassroots Meeting, Chamber Volunteer Celebration, Annual Membership Meeting, President’s Gala, Legislative Reception, and Legislative Luncheon.

At the same time as Project Coordinator for the National I-73/74 Corridor Association she was responsible for the general administration of the entire organization. She scheduled and attended meetings with legislators on a local, state and national level, including meetings with key Congressional and Senate members in Washington, D.C. She was also responsible for the 2007 Fly-In to Washington, D.C. where she planned a 2 day conference for more than 70 members from 6 different states to meet with major Congressional and Senate leaders.

Melanie moved back to Austin in 2009 and is thrilled to be involved in the community and a key part of Austin’s upcoming young professional’s organization, the Austin Young Chamber of Commerce. She is a life member of the Texas Exes, and a member of the Beta Lambda Beta Alumni Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega.
