In May, we made the move to Owen’s Garage in east Austin. This collaboration space is already fostering some incredible ideas and lowering our operational cost. We did our first survey over a year ago and our young professional survey of the community about 9 months ago. It is time for us to hear from you again. We are only able to improve when we have your thoughts, input, and ideas. We won’t stop collecting information until we have heard from at least a third of our members. Welcome Lane Strickland — Your New Program and Events Coordinator
Lane Strickland joined the team in June. She provides support to our committees and ensures every program is a success. Lane is a graduate of The University of Alabama, where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Hotel, Restaurant and Meetings Management.
After graduation, Lane launched her career in Austin, where she began her specialization in hospitality sales and event management as a Sales & Catering Manager for a local restaurant. After four years of living in Austin and working within the hospitality industry, Lane decided to join the U.S Peace Corps to pursue her dream of living overseas and helping others. There, she worked in a remote village in South Africa as an HIV/AIDS Outreach Coordinator. After 27 months of service, Lane is now back in Austin continuing to pursue her passion of non-profit work and hospitality. On her time off, Lane enjoys time with her dog, Zazu, around Town Lake, participating in food and wine tastings and taking advantage of the music scene Austin has to offer.
Over 300 people applied for this position and we interviewed nearly two dozen. Lane stood out and her passion and enthusiasm is unquestioned. We are excited to add her to our growing team. AYC full time staff now includes Lane, Katherine Randow, and myself. We are joined by Mel Martin, our part-time administrative assistant, and two impressive interns.
