AUSTIN, Texas, August 31, 2022 – The Austin Young Chamber, Movability, and Transit Forward today jointly released a directory of coffee shops, restaurants, bars, and music venues located within a 15-minute walk of stations on CapMetro’s Red Line. The list provides Central Texans information on great local businesses that can be easily reached from the community’s commuter rail line for meetings, food, or events without having to stress about traffic, gas prices, or parking.

Austinites can find these businesses easily using their Google Maps mobile application here or online on the Transit Forward website here. Examples of great areas easily accessible by train include downtown music venues on Red River and Rainey Streets, bars and restaurants in East Austin, Austin FC games at Q2 stadium, and the weekend farmer’s market in Leander.

Information on rideshare, bicycle rental, and scooter rentals for riders, once they get to a station, is also available.

“This directory increases the accessibility for Austinites to support the small business community. It will become a model for future rail lines to sustain our vibrant and culturally diverse local businesses,” says Joana Ortiz, president and chief executive officer of the Austin Young Chamber.

“With more people working remotely and on hybrid schedules, having a list of places to meet for coffee or lunch along the Red Line at your fingertips makes it even easier not to get stuck in Austin traffic. Movability is excited to have this new tool available to commuters,” says Lisa Kay Pfannenstiel, executive director of Movability.

“A world-class city deserves a world-class transit system,” said Bill McCamley, Transit Forward Executive Director. “Showcasing the outstanding food and venues that Austinites can already access from the Red Line highlights what we have and just how much we will all benefit as Project Connect develops new rail lines.”

Any business within a 15-minute walk of a Red Line station that wishes to be added to the directory can email bill@transitforward.org.
