How did you get to Austin?
In a car… Just kidding. I grew up in San Antonio and my brother lived in Austin. I remember visiting as a kid and loving The Greenbelt, the parks, the river and the peacocks. As a teenager I started swing dancing and Austin had a way better scene with live music at The Fed (The Texas Women’s Federation Ballroom) and great weekend-long workshops. As soon as I had a drivers license, I was here more weekends than not! I moved here after shortly after high school and worked for great local businesses, took art and dance classes at Austin Community College, and spent the rest of my time riding my book or hanging out at BookPeople. I left to finish college in SA and then work in Galveston, but circled back — and here I am!

Why did you join the AYC?
I spent my first couple of years back in Austin as a contract/freelance worker, so I often worked in isolation. In a new and very social position with Go Dance Studio, I wanted to really connect with the community. I went through the Leadership Austin Emerge program and knew several of my classmates were involved in AYC. I always seek to engage with other young leaders in the community – it energizes me and helps me hold myself to a higher standard!

What is your favorite lunch spot?
I am so grateful to live in a city with so many great vegan options! I can’t choose just one, but the highlights are Bouldin Creek Cafe, Elizabeth Street (though better for dinner because of their delicious punch!), and Vegan Nom Taco Trailer.

If you could have any super power, what would it be and what would you use it for?
Oh geez. Can I fly AND have telekinesis if I promise to use them for (mostly) good?

If you could have any celebrity live next door to you, who would it be?
I would share a house with Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling. We would have Kristen Schaal, Demetri Martin, and the cast of Parks and Rec over for cookouts … I would totally be okay with being the least funny person in the house.

What are your top 3 things to do/see in Austin?
Swim at Barton Springs, go rock climbing on the Greenbelt and get lost in coffee and graphic novels at BookPeople. And to be unspecific, dancing wherever someone is throwing out some great 80s, swing, funk, or even country — as long as I’m getting spun around the floor!

If you played hooky for a day, where would we find you?
Today? Deep Eddy, because it’s not quite warm enough for The Springs yet.

When people ask you what you do for a living, what do you tell them?
Officially? I am the community marketing coordinator for a ballroom and social dance studio. I work on our community partnerships, active-giving initiatives, and new-student engagement. There’s some dancing, too! I also manage a few memberships and consult for a great buy-local program in town, Go Local.

What do you think is the best invention in the past 50 years?
The Internet? Smartphones are pretty incredible too.

Who was your first Facebook friend?
Who knows that? I joined to connect with a lot of great people I met through Greenpeace leadership training.

If you couldn’t live in Austin, where would you want to live?
Why couldn’t I live in Austin? Have you heard something? I promise I’ll get that tattoo and join a band — don’t kick me out! Just kidding. I would love to live in Montreal, Paris, Portland (OR or ME!), NoCal, Moab, Boulder…
